Writing

May 14, 2008

The written word is one of the oldest forms of communication. Getting your message across and acted upon is yet another skill that must be acquired if one is going to get ahead in the world of Internet business.

It may be the last thing you want to hear; making a living online means you will have to write something.  Whether it is blog entries, comments, reviews, articles, or full blown ebooks, writing skills are essential.  Some people are comfortable writing.  Recording your thoughts in such a way that is interesting and entertaining for others to read.  Some people can’t put two sentences together.  (Which category I fall into is still under debate)

It can be mind boggling looking at all the ways in which we use the written word in our business world so doesn’t it make sense that we should be a master at using words?

For those of you that have negelected your writing skills thinking you would never need them, you need not despair.  writing can be easy with the right tools.  I will be writing a series of articles to help you with your writing skills.  We will go in baby steps to get you the skills you need to be comfortable writing and publishing your words online.

To start off, think about this;  write like you talk.  Using proper english, or close to it, you should write as if you are having a pleasant converation.  There are a staggering number of people who claim they can not write, yet they can carry on a conversation with ease.  In writing, like speaking, you are painting a picture with words.  Describing experiences, places, and people in as much detail as possible to the listener or reader can envision what you see in your mind.  Some people will go so far as to make a recording first and then later transcribe their voice to text.

I know some of you are having horrible visions of high school english class, wodering what sentence structure to use.  There is a general structure that is beneficial to follow.  But we are not going to worry about that just yet.  The most important part of writing is to write.
