Why Niche Marketing?

April 21, 2008

Why niche marketing?  Everyone who has considered starting a new website has probably asked themselves this question.  Why would you want to limit yourself to a small corner of the web?  I will shed some light on this topic for you.

If you were going to start a new website today do you think you could make more money competing against Amazon or “Dan’s Store” when it comes to getting visitors to your website.  Because of the competition, it makes more sense to go up against Dan’s Store.  Going up against Amazon and trying to match their company will get you nowhere fast.

Niche marketing is the process of finding small but potentially profitable market segments and designing custom made products for them. Niche marketers often rely on the loyalty of their visitors to make more sales.

To build niche websites that make you money you have to find the right niches to compete in. Selling ice to an Eskimo is a hard thing to do. You need to be selling products to people who have a need, an interest, or a desire for what you are selling.

This is why niche marketing works because people are already searching for what you have.

It is much easier to sell to traffic in a market that is already there than it is to create the market itself. Plain and simple that is why niche marketing works.

So what niche do you start with. You will always do your best work when you like the work you are doing. Choose to sell products in a niche market that you have an interest in. If you are passionate about it marketing to this niche is a breeze. You can create web pages that are full of valuable information
because of your enthusiasm for it.

Niche marketing works best when you promote to people within the niche itself. This means doing article marketing and social marketing in directories that have people who are looking for information on your niche. If you advertise online specialize when you do it.

Don’t run a solo ad on gardening for example in a email newsletter that caters to a subscriber base of people interested in cars.

If you give your customers something of value they will come back to you.  Don’t try to force them to purchase from you, don’t send out spam emails hoping someone will be gullible enough to click your link.  Provide something of value.  Give away a free ebook on your niche topic.  Have a weekly newsletter people can sign up for.  Make your newsletter interesting or funny, but most of all make it real.  Your customers will appreciate seeing a person behind the webpage.

Even if a hundred people are selling the same thing, your site gives them that personal touch that makes them want to come back.  Repeat customers is where the real monsy is made on the web.

Hopefully you now have a better understanding about niche marketing and why it is a good idea to do it. Your chances of making money online increase when you do.
