Making Your Presence Known on the Web

April 13, 2008

Having your own URL and web page is essential to any online effort.  Many affiliates try to just promote their affiliate links.  This in itself is okay, but you are running the risk of having your affiliate link modified which robs your of your commission.  Also, what many online gurus will not tell you, is that in order to be truly successful on the web you have to present some kind of authority on the product you are promoting.

Some people have this authority because they have been online for a while, if you google their name you will find thousands of results.  If you want people to buy from you, and especially if you want repeat customers, being seen as an authority on a subject if essential.

So maybe your not well known.  Maybe you barely have any knowledge on the product you are trying to sell.  The simple fact that you have some kind of website is enough for alot of people.  In the beginning of your web career you don’t have to know how to make a webpage let alone a whole site.  To start out there are several places to get your page up for free.

Squidoo is one such place.  On Squidoo you make lenses (pages) about your product or topic.  On this page you can link to your affiliate page for your readers to follow.  Go to Squidoo now and practice making a lense.  You can make as many as you want.  Browse other lenses ans see how they look, practice making your site look similar.  Don’t worry about getting it wrong.  Practice makes perfect.

Later we will go over how you can be sure your lens gets traffic.
