How Much Advertising is Enough?
May 1, 2008
Do you advertise your current website or opportunity? Are you using traffic exchanges, classified ads, traffic, solo ads, Pay Per Click advertising or some other form? There is no right or wrong answer on where you are advertising as long as you are advertising your business.
One thing I have found by working online is those who advertise consistently are the ones who not only survive but they thrive. Now honestly, nobody wants to spend money advertising. Sometimes paid advertising is more effective than free advertising and sometimes it is not. Most people use a combination of free and paid, but, more importantly, they use advertising that works.
If you do not advertise your site, you will not go anyplace , so make sure you allocate a budget for advertising and stick with it.
Advertising is alot like exercising. You don’t do it because it is fun necessarily, you do it for the results it brings. It sure is nice when you see the results of your advertising and start getting those commission notifications.
So, let me get back to the original question. How much advertising do you need? The short answer is all you can get and the long answer is a little more complicated.
First you need to establish your advertising budget and this is going to be based on a number of factors such as: the cost of your program, product or service, how quickly you want to build your business, how much money you have left over each month after you pay all your bills and what type of advertising you want to do.
The higher cost of the program, product or service you are selling, the more advertising you will have to buy to get sales. Let’s say you have a product that costs $300 and let’s say you get $90 for each sale you make–this is about a 30% commission.
The way to look at this is that you can spend up to $90 to get someone to buy your product. Now, obviously you don’t want to spend all your profit, so decide how much you want to keep and spend the rest on advertising.
If you are just starting out, you will probably have to spend the entire amount and maybe more because advertising is all about testing, so you need to test different advertising options until you find one that works for you.
As you test different ad services you will find some that will not work and others that will and then you invest more in those that bring you the desired results and never go back to the ones that don’t produce.
But why would you want to spend more money then you make? The answer is because you are building your business and it takes time. Don’t believe the hyped up sites telling you that you can easily make tens of thousands of dollars overnight. There is not a company in the world that was profitable overnight. Even Google took years and hundreds of millions of dollars in investments before they broke even. Now of course they are one of the most profitable businesses in the world, but they started in the hole just like everyone else.
So the bottom line on advertising is get as much as you can afford and never stop advertising. Be smart about it and track your ads, but you must advertise.
Over in the sponsor section you sill see a banner for free marketing tools, right click on it and open in a new window. This site is giving you several key advertising tools for free. They make their money by selling advertising services. But you are not required to spend a dime if you don’t want to. They are definately worth checking out.
One service I started last month is now starting to grow. Website Marketing Directory is a directory of marketing sites. Some are free and some are paid. But each one of them can help you build your business. Use the directory as your one stop portal for all your marketing needs. The links are approved manually by me to ensure quality.
Advertising is the ‘work’ part of your online business that the guru’s rarely explain fully. The most I can do is to make it as easy as possible for you.
