Getting Started with Clickbank - Choosing Keywords

April 7, 2008

At this point we have chosen the product we want to promote.

The next step is to “become an expert” with the product and decide on which keywords you are going to use.  This step confuses and scares alot of people.  It only seems difficult because it is unfamiliar.  Once you get the hang of it, finding your keywords will be easy.

To “become an expert” in your product, you want to find out as much as possible about the product.  Type the product title into your favorite search engine and see what comes up.  Read reviews and articles based on the product.  While you are doing this research, write down the “key” words related to your search.  For example if you were to choose Automated Cash formula as your product you could write down keywords such as cash, making money, profit, home business, etc, etc   Write down as many keyword as you can think of as you discover more about your chosen product.

Next you need to decide which keywords you are going to use in your own writings.  One way to accomplish this is to do a search for each keyword and see how many items are returned.  For example, if you search for “home business” on Google you would find 27,100,100 entries.  There is alot of competition for this keyword, your chances of being seen here are slim.  As you can imagine the keyword competition for words related to making money is pretty fierce.

There are several systems available for making your keyword research easier.  Wordtracker has several tools you can use for your research.  They also have a free trial period and a 30 day moneyback guarantee.

You would like to find a few keywords with 6000 results or less from Google.

Don’t be afraid of making mistakes here.  Over time you will get better, but you need to practice.  Failure is essential to learning.  Allow yourself to learn.

Next time we will go over setting up your website.
